Inner radius for Black weight often very sharp

You can see that my van here has sharp inner corners. This also happens in other vector tools, so it’s understandable, but it would be nice if there was some kind of ‘minimum corner rounding’ that you could set, so it never goes below that and is always at least a little bit rounded.

that’s an interesting one to look at. I’m drawing the large strokes using Core Graphics, and this is how it handles the corners on the inside of a line. There’s no reason I need to stick to Core Graphics’ methods, I just went with it by default, as I suspect many other vector apps did.

The question is, what is desirable. Do we want a separate inner radius control? Or a rounding mode popup that lets you pick between the old behaviour and one that exaggerates the inner corners? I presume we don’t want to always exaggerate the inners, because that’d cause other designs to break.

Have you seen any tool that does this well, that I could look at for inspiration?

Trying out a “minimum internal radius” setting.

I’m trying to work out whether I need a per-corner setting though, or if per-object is ok.

Oh, that is looking nice.

As with all things for designers, I’m assuming ‘per object’ is going to be okay for a while, but at some point someone is going to complain and day they want one per corner.

You can see that Apple’s SF Symbols tend to have their inner corners slightly rounded. For example, tray has a nice mix of both sharp and inner corners. So they would probably be a big proponent of per-corner.

Nope. I’ve been dealing with this while creating my other icons because Sketch doesn’t have this either, and you end up with less path anchors when you convert the stroke to outlines, which of course breaks the SF Symbol.

I’ve built this now, and I did add it per-corner (although the UI for that is a bit hidden — you have to double click on a corner-rounding handle, which summons a popover in which you can unlink the corners.) Shipping in the next version, which I’m trying to fast track since it also contains a bug fix.

Setting it for the whole object is in the inspector.

Also congratulations, this was the feature that caused me to have to split up the “Fill & Stroke” inspector tab into two tabs
