Variant preview should ignore knockout for positioning

I was making an icon visually the same size in both filled and not-filled version. While taking a look on how it looks smaller (without preview), I was initially confused because the variant preview jumps up and down while toggling the example’s visibility.

Turns out that’s because the knockout of the example also being counted while centering the preview. I feel like it should ignore outer knockout areas for visual centering purposes.

That’s been on my list to address. As you noticed, it currently makes the preview based on ink bounds (i.e. the outermost coloured pixels).

Ideally I’d do something based on the margin guides, since they’re the canonical ‘location’ of a symbol. I just need to decide how far outside the margins I’ll draw in the preview — it’s completely ok to put symbol content outside of the margin guides, so we can’t crop at them…

Hi Bruno,

As of McKinley 1.3.1, the sidebar previews are now positioned based on the symbol’s margin guides.
